This work presents a critical edition of Profitable Instructions (1633), an Early Modern English manual of advice for travellers. It also includes a codicological and linguistic description of the 1633 printing and contextualises the text within travel writing and the prescriptive ars apodemica tradition that frames travel as methodical observation and information-gathering in an era of colonial and commercial expansion. On this textual basis, the study analyses how authorial stance (stancetaking) is constructed across the volume from a historical linguistic perspective, following Marín Arrese¿s model (2009). Findings indicate a clear concentration of stance devices in the epistolary sections of the corpus. Effective stance mechanisms are especially prominent in the instructional material and letters, whereas epistemic strategies (marking degrees of certainty and authorial positioning) are comparatively more frequent in the prefatory text, consistent with its persuasive role. Overall, the work shows how stance helps organise instruction and persuasion in prescriptive travel advice, while also enlarging edited evidence for Early Modern English.
