In the seventeenth century, all along the Ancient Kingdom and Diocese of Jaén, there were ?several remains of antiques which denoted places that had been either Roman shelter or inhabited by the Romans?. There were also pre-Roman remains: coins and inscriptions featuring the ?ancient Spanish peoples?. The Greeks, Phoenicians and Carthaginians had, in the same way, left their mark there. This book is a contribution to the Historiography of Archaeology and it is devoted to the study of the history of ancient Archaeology of Jaén in the seventeenth century. Contributions included in the National Library Manuscript # 1180 by Martín de Ximena Jurado -who was the best representative of antique dealers of Jaén at that time, together with writings and pictures by other antique dealers -such as Francisco de Rus Puerta, Francisco de Torres and Gregorio López Pinto- acquaint us with the study of the ancient region of Jaén.
