This book has been conceived to help intermediate and advanced students of English develop their reading comprehension and knowledge of grammar. It contains a selection of stories and fragments by several authors that have been adapted to the teaching goals to be pursued. Each text (or group of texts by the same author) is preceded by a brief biography and an introduction to the topic of the passage. Different kinds of exercises follow the texts to develop reading comprehension skills: indicate the text?s organisational structures, determine the theme, evaluate points of view or analyse and understand the text?s stylistic procedures and more. Furthermore, the sections entitled "Language study" and ?Further points for language study" include exercises that delve into specific aspects of grammar in more depth. A final section with answers to the exercises is included.
